Driveability From the Driver’s Seat, Mastering Scan Tool Data Interpretation
The course objective is to first take the novice drivability-tech and offer insight as to how fuel injection strategy functions. After a thorough discussion of what critical inputs are necessary and how they contribute to the decision of the proper fuel injector pulse-width, interactive class exercises will begin. Using my personal vehicle with a MAF fueling strategy, a series of experiments were conducted to create a low-power drivability fault. The faults include: -exhaust restriction -Air Filter restriction -Fuel restriction -un-metered air before the throttle plate -un-metered air after throttle (vacuum) The scan data will be presented in a graphed format, for “action/reaction” comparison. The goal of the class is to have the attendees analyze the data and decipher which fault is responsible for the data being viewed at that time. This class is highly interactive, and attendees will leave with an understanding of fuel injection strategy, fuel feedback control, and the ability to use generic scan tool data to make preliminary decisions about diagnostic direction, right from the driver's seat."

Passive Entry and Starting Systems
Factory security systems, passive entry, and start systems using a FOB key have been available for many years. These systems have gotten more complex with the number of modules they communicate with over the network. Typically, these systems are reliable. However, when they do fail it is crucial to understand how they work together for proper and accurate diagnosis.
The goal of this class is to further the knowledge of the aftermarket technician to be ready to diagnose and repair push button start systems on common make and models. Technicians will learn to narrow down and isolate problems within a system. Technicians will learn the core components involved with all push button start systems, as well as the OE specific components and their operation. After completing this class, the technician will be able to: - Understand module controlled starting systems and their operation - Identify and diagnose various components of a push button start system - Understand the process and inputs required for passive engine starts - Identify service and repair issues related to the starting and security systems - Differentiate and diagnose between wired and wireless communication faults - Read and interpret a wiring schematic Speaker(s): John Dixon

Fuel Trim and Volumetric Efficiency
This clinic is designed to help the technician become more proficient in interpreting Fuel Trim PIDs, understand how they are calculated, and understand what influences them. This information will help provide diagnostic direction for many different engine performance concerns. Several Case Study vehicles will be reviewed. Misfire complaints are one of the most common experiences today. Within this clinic, we provide a combination of scan tool data methods to help provide a clear path to pinpointing the root cause. Volumetric efficiency diagnostics will be reviewed and discussed through vehicle case study. Putting all the pieces together during an engine diagnostic is like reading a road map; the key to success is finding the shortest path to the destination without getting lost.
After completing this clinic, the student will have the knowledge to: • Apply a logical path of diagnosing Fuel Trim and Misfire concerns on today’s vehicles • Utilize the graphing function of the scan tool to ‘trend’ important scan tool PID (Parameter Identification Data) relationships • Perform Volumetric Efficiency testing to gain diagnostic direction • Diagnose engine Misfire related concerns using the data provided within the scan tool • Recognize Fuel System monitoring strategies, operation and diagnostic routines Speaker(s): Gary Kimball

Advanced GDI Systems and Diagnostics
Gasoline direct injection brought about a new level of efficiency to modern vehicles but with it came new challenges. Carbon accumulation in the intake path led several manufacturers to create dual injection systems that would wash the back of the intake valves and utilize direct injection for its power and lower fuel consumption to capture the best of both worlds when it comes to fuel injection. This course will cover single GDI and dual fuel injections systems and how to properly diagnose them. GDI injectors being installed in the combustion chamber reduces access to them for testing so, we’ll cover testing techniques that prove functionality without teardown and physical inspection. Recommended for A and B level Technicians Learn how dual injection systems work together How to test DI injectors verse standard port fuel injectors Recognizing injection issues using scan tool data and scopes o When does each system operate and how will I know which is causing the fault? o How many fuel pumps are in a dual-injector fuel systems? o How do we test DI injectors when they’re buried under the intake manifold? Does dual injection give us new data for drivability testing?

In this class, we share the road maps that we have learned and developed over many years of study and application. There is no doubt that data communications and network issues are amongst the most difficult, time consuming and costly diagnostics that we encounter. Factory scan tools offer expanded testing techniques that are manufacturer specific, but even those dedicated software platforms are not enough to accurately diagnose these problems in many cases. Network problems fall into several categories: U- Codes and multiple communication DTCs, module errors, vehicle wiring and component faults, intermittent ugliness and more. Topics will include: Network Theory, Configuration and Components Theory of operation of the various sections of CAN we analyze in the Physical Layer ·Single and dual wire, ethernet, fiber optic, wireless and the rules that make them work. ·Network “wake-up” strategies and wakeup waveform analysis. ·How the protocol language actually means something to us in the waveform ·Terminated network bus lines and diagnosing them quickly and accurately Learn the physical rules that make any network function, waveform interpretation and analysis: This year’s 2026 update to the Network Nightmares Series is the addition of the NEW Bits and Bytes section on Serial Decoding procedures. This awesome addition teaches serial decoding techniques related to real-world diagnostics for both module isolation and for in-depth analysis of the transport layer to identify damaged modules, scrambled messages, including internal CAN node electrical faults. Waveform interpretation, serial decoding, math channels, XY views, masks, alarms are covered. ·Each topic will be backed up with real case studies to re-enforce the strategies used. ·Network topology designs and their operational strategies ·Learn unique application of scan tools and lab scope together, our diagnostic “tips ‘n tricks If you want to UP your diagnostic game, DON’T MISS THIS CLASS! Cummins 5.9L & 6.7L Common Rail Diesel
Diesel engines are very simple – just compress some air and fuel and you get combustion. But with the advent of common rail fuel pressurization and delivery systems, diagnosis and repair became a complicated and time-consuming game. Add variable vane/nozzle turbochargers, feedback EGR systems, and exhaust aftertreatment systems like Diesel Particulate Filters, Selective Catalyst Reduction, and Diesel Exhaust Fluid injection, and it’s hard to know where to start. System, code, and system diagnosis covered includes: • Finding elusive Cummins internal fuel leaks • Modifications & retrofits that make sense • Tips for getting DPFs to regenerate • Help for stuck DEF messages and codes • Easy tests for injector ball faults • Simplified no-start & hard-start diagnostics • Great tests for low power complaints • Turbo issues & diagnosis Other published Cummins repair information is inconsistent, and many of the flow charts run you in circles performing tests that would take days. In contrast, our approach looks for high-level indicators to make a better possible-cause list, and then offers multiple simple tests to trim that list as fast as possible without taking too much apart. Cummins engine management and emissions systems are each comprehensively covered, including special tools, workarounds, unused Scan Tool functions, and other great shortcuts. From a simple high-level pass to system-specific tips, this seminar covers the entire diagnostic process. Daily Diagnostics with HP Tuners
It is a well-known fact that vehicle diagnostics today are full of challenges for everyday technicians. The currently available scan tool options do a good job of providing most of what is needed regarding scan data parameters. But what if we could go even further than most scan tools allow already? And what if that option was an extremely affordable option for everyone? These are some of the reasons we decided to use a tool from HP Tuners, known as the MPVI, and focus on the strengths and advantages that the VCM Scanner application can bring to the everyday diagnostic technicians’ workflow. Viewing powertrain scan data and comparing operating parameters takes on a completely new experience, with the ability to view numerical and graphed data in ways that is unmatched in other scan tool offerings today. Bidirectional controls and service functions for both engine and transmission are available for many vehicle applications as well. With a few simple clicks, connecting to a vehicle to view emissions-related DTCs and current OBD monitor status will save a lot of diagnostic time. In this course, we will discuss how to integrate this tool into your diagnostic routine using the following, and even more, strengths of the VCM Scanner software: This course is intended to create a whole new look on drivability diagnostics where we’ve never been able to see before. We will also introduce the VCM Editor software for a further understanding of how a module makes the decisions that it does. This course is intended for A and B level technicians. Recommended for level A and B Technicians How does this compare to the scan tool I already have? How can this tool make diagnostics easier? What do I need to be able to use the MPVI? Can I view data in different ways at the same time? How can I integrate data from an external input?

Diagnosing Fords using IDS and FDRS Laptop Based Scan Tools
The venerable Next Generation Star (Ford Handheld Scanner) was phased out almost 20 years ago. Its replacement was the laptop-based Integrated Diagnostic System or IDS which was introduced to dealers in 2005. It has been a stalwart of Ford vehicle diagnosis for Ford/Lincoln vehicles from 1996 to roughly 2019. It is power packed with features that reduce diagnostic time like Module Programming, Power Balance, Relative Compression, Automated Fuel System and Evaporative Emissions testing. Many shops have yet to embrace this affordable and efficient tool. Ford Diagnostic & Repair System (FDRS) – This is the next generation factory Ford Motor Company vehicle diagnostic Software designed for use with VCM II or VCM III, VCMM and J2534 compatible Vehicle Communications Interfaces (VCI). This is the replacement for the IDS. The major difference is that FDRS is internet cloud based. It has many of the same powerful features of IDS but with other improvements. This class will investigate both IDS and FDRS strengths and weaknesses. Features will be discussed, and their advantages to speeding up the diagnostic process. Hardware, software, licenses and interfaces will be investigated. Real world case studies will be used as examples.

Diagnostics 101
This class uses the Quick Things First testing procedures to check for proper system testing. Using tools that most shops already have will form a diagnostic foundational procedure. Test procedures will baseline the vehicle for repair or point in a direction for more testing. Systems tested: • Battery/Charging/Starting • Compression/Engine Condition • Fuel Pump/Fuel Injectors • Ignition • Computer. Tools used are a scan tool, a compression gauge, a vacuum gauge, and Lab scope. This procedure helps us identify any issues with the vehicle's basic functions. The process can be done with big box analyzers or the use of hand-held testers. We need to establish a baseline for the engine's compression condition, Fuel pressure and volume, Electrical system, and computer functions.

Diagnostics Under Pressure: Mechanical and Driveability Diagnostics Using Pressure Waveforms
As an instructor and technician, I have been studying/using this diagnostic process for over 20 years. Of all that I have learned, the most important part is that I still to this day find anomalies in these waveforms that are new to me. What I mean is that this topic is much deeper and has more information than most of us realize, and therefore continued study is priceless. ·Pressure can only do 3 things: oGo up, go down, or remain the same, pretty simple. ·If this is true, then we only need a few things to properly analyze it as it relates to engine operation and determine the issues BEFORE disassembly oHave the proper equipment and knowledge to measure the change(s) ?In-cylinder, intake, exhaust, crankcase, and hydraulic pressures oHave a way to determine and measure where the piston/valves/stroke and other mechanical components within its rotation (typically 720 degrees) oKnow what pressure change to expect ?What to do if the pressure changes aren’t what we expect ·This class will utilize REAL DiagNation case studies to prove these invaluable testing methods and is suited for technicians of all skill levels, entry to expert. ·This class is “hands-on” and will require all students to bring a laptop with PicoScope 7 software (free from picoauto.com) installed, and a free downloaded copy of “pressure waveform overlays” from the “windows app store”. It is not necessary to bring or own a PicoScope.

Direct Injection & Air Induction Systems Diagnostics
This all-new training seminar is the third in our popular Import series. Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) is simple in design but difficult to diagnose because the traditional shortcuts of swapping out parts and disassembling for inspection are not practical. This is why we have adapted ATG’s ‘High Level Indicator’ approach for ruling out possible causes before parts come off. The same approach applies to induction system diagnostics where repair information is vague, component access is difficult, and feedback loops are not always available. For all systems covered, the approach is first universal, and becomes manufacturer-specific only after the possible cause and tool/test lists have been completed and trimmed down. Coverage includes: • GDI high level pressure & performance tests • Carbon deposit prevention • Best valve carbon removal tools/techniques • Excellent strategies for reducing possible causes • Manufacturer-specific faults & tips • Shortcuts for validating sensors & actuators • A repeatable strategy for analyzing induction system functionality and creating a test plan for: o Traditional wastegate turbos o Combo wastegate/bypass turbos o Electronic throttle controls o Feedback & non-feedback variable intake o Integrated crankcase breathing This seminar was built by analyzing actual diagnostic struggles and documenting the shortest diagnostic paths for these systems. Because of this practical approach, you won’t be buried in useless engineering detail – only useful facts that you can measure and that will help guide your diagnostic path. This seminar continues the ATG tradition of saving you diagnostic time. We’re in the ‘wasted test prevention’ business, and we hope you can attend!

Duramax L5P Diesel Engine
The 2017 & newer Duramax L5P and the related L5D are a huge improvement over LML, LGH and earlier generation Duramax applications. However, service information is even worse! It’s not so much ‘terrible’ as ‘nonexistent’. This creates unique challenges for diesels because the aftertreatment systems cannot work if there are even subtle base engine or engine management faults, so the path from ‘code’ to ‘cause’ is very fuzzy. The L5P also signaled a shift from Bosch to DENSO fuel systems, the addition of a brushless low pressure pump, the move to an electronically-controlled turbocharger, and many more changes. These are significant engine management differences that just aren’t explained. To help you out, we’ve collected the specific ways that these new systems fail and offer lots of known good data and field-proven test procedures to diagnose them. Specifically, attendees will be able to: • Sort through the EGR, DPF, DOC & SCR faults and determine the root cause, even if it’s a breathing or fueling fault or other ‘upstream’ issue • Locate boosted duct leaks and measurement fault, including the ‘leak PID’ and MAP clogging issues • Understand how sensor faults cause misleading injector timing and volume codes • Identify erratically named Duramax L5P sensors • Determine hard-start and no-start root causes • Apply post-repair relearns and system tests The seminar will help you make a better possible cause list and show you simple tests to trim that list without taking too much apart. We’ve also created graphics that are missing from service information for the intake, fuel and emissions systems that show the ‘real’ component locations and flow through systems. This seminar is what you need to win against these diesels.

Engine Mechanical Diagnosis with Electronic Equipment
This class covers the use of current probes, vacuum transducers and pressure transducers to quickly diagnose engine mechanical issues quickly. Often, using the techniques discussed in this class, the amount of physical teardown to confirm the diagnosis will not be required. This class will focus on misfire problems, but will also address ignition and camshaft timing issues. Multiple tools will be covered to achieve these goals, but technique is the key. All of the testing techniques will be backed up with actual “broken car” case studies. If you own a scope, you’ll want to attend this class. The information discussed will greatly expedite your diagnostic process.

Ford Drivability & Code Diagnostics
The real path to diagnostic success involves starting with what each system is actually trying to accomplish, how each monitor verifies operation, and how you can duplicate and measure it in the shop. On Ford vehicles, this is more challenging because flow charts cover groups of vehicles, not specific systems. The variety and complexity of Ford’s induction, fueling, ignition, mechanical, and emissions systems dictates the need for a more of a ‘why’ approach to system types, defaults and interactions. This new Ford seminar sorts through the hundreds of PIDs, controls, waveforms and strategies available on modern Fords to find the best combination of Scan Tool, Lab Scope, and other tests for the most common diagnostics. More than that, it offers a high-level thought process to determine which tests to perform, and just as importantly, which test to avoid. Specific topics include: • Breathing & fueling decision making tables • New combination Port/Direct injection systems • Rear Fuel Trim & Port vs. Direct Fuel Trim • Extensive help with Misfire & Fuel Trim codes • O2 noise vs. torque-based imbalance codes • New EVAP blocking solenoid • Actuator voltage drop testing • Mechanical vs. Variable Engine Timing Testing • Three GDI fuel volume solenoid control variations • Turbo wastegate & bypass control variations Come to this seminar and get the information you need to beat the flow chart every time. Misleading codes, codes that are really symptoms other faults, unexplained PID units, and inverted PID values are all very common on Fords. But between our high-level approach, specific examples and case studies, you’ll be armed and ready for your next diagnostic challenge.

From Awkward to Authentic: Rethinking Networking
From Awkward to Authentic: Rethinking Networking Taught by Sara Fraser & Tracy Capriotto You’ve probably heard that “networking is everything” but no one tells you how to do it without feeling awkward, fake, or like you’re bothering people. This session is about changing that. Sara and Tracy met through networking in the automotive industry, and now they’re not just collaborators, they’re close friends who built careers they love through the power of showing up, reaching out, and finding their people. And neither of them started as “natural networkers.” One’s a classic introvert. The other was behind the mic. If they can do it, so can you, and it doesn’t have to feel uncomfortable or forced. This session helps you: Build real relationships that make your work and your life better Start conversations that feel natural, not salesy or scripted Recognize local and industry spaces where your presence matters Encourage your team to connect, grow, and represent your shop proudly Use tools like social media, events, and follow-ups without the awkwardness Find and support people who truly want to see you succeed This isn’t about trading business cards or practicing elevator pitches. It’s about growing through connection, one genuine conversation at a time. Whether you’re trying to grow your career, build your reputation, or just get out of your shell a little, this session gives you the mindset and tools to make networking feel like something you want to do, not something you have to survive. Because the right people are out there. And finding them might just change your life.

From Start to Stay: Hiring With Intention
Hiring doesn’t need another playbook. It needs a reality check. This session is a deep dive into what it really takes to find, interview, and actually keep the right people on your team. You’ll learn how to write job ads that stand out without sounding desperate, ask interview questions that tell you what you actually need to know, and create a hiring experience that makes the right people feel like they’ve finally found the shop they’ve been looking for. Led by Sara Fraser, VP of Auto Ignite Management, who interviews more techs and advisors in a month than some shops do in a lifetime. Which means she’s seen the red flags, the weird answers, the resume fiction, and she’s here to help you avoid hiring your next regret. This isn’t about manifesting the perfect team. It’s about building one with intention, the right tools, and a process that actually works. No more guesswork, recycled interview questions, or generic job ads that blend in with the noise. It’s time to rethink the way you hire because if your process hasn’t changed in years, it’s probably not working. What You’ll Learn: What today’s workforce is really looking for (and what’s pushing them away) How to write job ads that stand out and speak to the right people Interviewing strategies that go deeper than “Are you a team player?” How to spot the difference between a solid fit and a walking red flag How your hiring process might be turning people off before they even apply How to show candidates they’re not just applying to a job, they’re joining something better This isn’t just another hiring class. It’s the one that will change the way you attract, interview, and connect with the people your shop really needs.

Fuel Trim Diagnostics
In this course, you will learn the importance of interpreting fuel trim data accurately to diagnose issues such as vacuum leaks, fuel delivery problems, and sensor faults. We’ll emphasize the vital role of oxygen sensors (O2 sensors) and air-fuel ratio sensors, demonstrating how their signals directly influence fuel trim behavior and overall engine health. Using live data, you’ll explore how to identify abnormal fuel trim patterns and what they reveal about underlying system problems. You’ll develop the skills to determine whether trims are within healthy ranges or indicative of deeper issues, and how to differentiate between short-term adjustments and long-term fuel trims that have become “learned” behavior. By understanding the interaction between oxygen sensors, air-fuel sensors, and fuel trims, you’ll be empowered to perform more accurate and efficient diagnostics, reducing guesswork and improving repair outcomes. Whether dealing with misfires, rough idling, or high emissions, mastering fuel trim analysis will become an essential tool in your technical toolkit. This course is designed for technicians who want to enhance their diagnostic accuracy and confidence by mastering the fundamentals of fuel trim behavior and sensor signals. Join us to unlock the secrets behind engine fueling and drive your troubleshooting skills to new heights.

Intro to Alignment Confidence
The course will cover all alignment angles. With a thorough understanding of how camber, caster, and toe affect handling and tire wear. Proper adjustments, including factory and aftermarket components to solve handling issues will be covered. Diagnosing damaged, bent suspension and steering components with SAI, IA, Setback and Toe-Out-On-Turns will be covered. How to use the angles to pinpoint the damaged component that needs to be replaced. Understanding what causes bump steer and torque steer and how to fix the issue. There are times when a vehicle comes into the shop with a handling complaint, that a quick turn of a cam will not fix the issue. Just because the numbers are green and within tolerance does not mean that the vehicle will handle properly. The shop manual may show that the angle is not adjustable, this does not mean that it is not able to be aligned. These are the times that a technician with full knowledge of alignments is needed. Recommended for all levels of technicians.

It Starts with A Spark
This testing and analytical technique has been lost over the years with the advent of recent technologies. The point of ignition is not as easily accessible. However, physics will never change, making ignition waveform acquisition and analysis highly applicable and sought after. Application of tools and testing techniques will be demonstrated through case study presentation of different varieties, and the class is designed to be highly interactive with class attendees. The object of the class is to create an environment for learning that boosts confidence. This will lead to accuracy and efficiency. Students will leave the class with a solid understanding of how ignition systems function in general and what is involved in creating the spark between the plug electrodes. They will gain confidence in the acquisition process to invest in the appropriate tooling and learn how to implement the tools on known-good vehicles. They will leave the class with the knowledge of how to practice and experiment safely while gaining the confidence to incorporate these techniques into their existing diagnostic process, eventually replacing time-consuming techniques with ignition waveform acquisition and analysis. These testing techniques can be applied to any vehicle with spark ignition.

Making Sense of Sensors
With vehicle technologies and components continuously expanding, there are more sensors across the average vehicle platform than ever before. Modules have more to monitor and control to ensure safe and efficient vehicle operation. This course will cover the purpose, operation, and testing procedures for a multitude of sensing components used today and the failure strategies used when a fault occurs. Students will be instructed on proper and efficient choice and application of tooling for sensor related diagnostics and how to understand the results of testing. Understanding the difference between a faulty sensor and good sensor is impossible without these skills. Sensor testing is still a challenging subject for many technicians around the world, but this course is aimed at making the topic easier to understand. Recommended for all levels of Technicians Theory and operation Circuit design Circuit testing Necessary tooling Various sensor types Circuit faults and strategies Pull-up and Pull-down sensors Switches and sensors relationship Shorts to power vs Shorts to ground Voltage vs Current regulation Effects of magnetism o How many different sensor types are there? o Will unplugging a sensor tell me enough to know if it’s good or bad? o Can a sensor still be good even if a module sets a fault code for it? o Can I just bench test it with a multimeter?

Mastering Charging & Starting Systems: From Scan Data to Scope Analysis
Modern 12-volt systems are no longer simple — and guessing doesn’t cut it anymore. If you’ve ever second-guessed a battery test, chased a phantom charging issue, or wondered why a new alternator still isn’t charging, this course is for you. This advanced diagnostic training breaks down the entire 12V ecosystem — from battery chemistry to starter current draw, alternator control to scan data verification — and gives you the tools to diagnose confidently, not just replace parts. We’ll start with the foundation: an in-depth look at battery types and chemistries — including AGM, EFB, flooded lead-acid, and lithium — and how their unique characteristics affect testing and behavior in modern vehicles. Learn how to properly evaluate state-of-charge, state-of-health, and reserve capacity using real-world techniques and modern tools. We will cover the strengths and limitations of various tools to analyze these systems health and performance. Next, we’ll deep-dive into alternator systems, covering self-regulating vs. computer-controlled designs, how to verify control circuit function, and what scan data can (and can’t) tell you. You’ll learn how to use an oscilloscope to validate control signals, ripple patterns, and diode performance, helping you detect charging faults others miss. We’ll also cover starter system diagnostics, including current ramping analysis, voltage drop testing, and scan tool support for crank position and system voltage monitoring — plus, how a healthy starter can still be part of a no-start or slow-crank complaint. And here’s what really sets this course apart: You’ll get a step-by-step diagnostic roadmap that helps you determine what’s “OK” vs. what’s failing — including manufacturer-required relearns, adaptations, and reset procedures after component replacement. Whether you’re installing a battery on a smart charging system or replacing a LIN-controlled alternator, you’ll know what to reset, how to verify it, and how to avoid repeat failures.

Mastering Light-Duty Domestic Diesel Emission Systems
Domestic light duty diesel vehicles have been equipped with emissions for over two decades. In recent years, the popularity of these vehicles and expanding powertrain lines have grown tremendously. Hardware advancements, software strategies, and tighter regulations have changed throughout the years. Despite their popularity, there are many misconceptions in this field that often leads to a misdiagnosed issue. Although there may be differences in configurations from one manufacture to another, they must all meet a common goal of complying with regulations. In this course, a timeline and explanation of the fundamental emissions systems will be covered. This will include in depth hardware explanations, the science behind emissions, and the similarities between different domestic manufactures. Diagnostic strategies as well as case studies will be covered to give attendees a better understanding of the domestic systems. A complete understanding of the role non-emission hardware has on the exhaust chemical composition will also be presented. Attendees will obtain confidence to tackle any emission related issue proficiently and accurately.

Misfire & Cylinder Contribution Diagnostics
ATG has been at the forefront of drivability diagnostics for decades, but we’ve never taken a deep dive into misfire diagnostics. This new manual and seminar are only about tests for misfiring and low cylinder contribution, so you’ll get a dedicated diagnostic process and lot more test detail than ever before. We include expanded ATG Tables for sorting initial test results by condition, so you’ll have far less time-consuming testing to perform from the other mechanical, ignition, breathing and fueling sections of the manual. And because misfiring often damages one or more catalytic converters, we’ve included some easy converter efficiency tests as a bonus. Other skills include: • Discerning between available PIDs for current and history misfires vs. non-misfire relative contribution data. • Understanding the difference between Fuel Trim and other sensor variations as misfire causes or secondary symptoms. • Easily identifying compression-related causes. • Implementing a plan that isolates non-compression mechanical faults. • Analyzing modern ignition primary & secondary voltage waveforms Whether you’re diagnosing a customer complaint or a condition code (other than circuit codes), this seminar contains dozens of examples of how to leverage the manual back in the shop to make the best possible cause list and then trim the list in along the fastest path.

Profit Without Pressure
Sales Through Service and Connection. What if sales didn’t have to feel like pressure, for you or your customer? What if it could feel like trust? You don’t have to choose between being good at sales and being good to people. When your team leads with empathy and your marketing speaks with clarity, trust becomes the strategy. And once trust is there, price isn’t an obstacle; it’s just part of the conversation. This brand new session explores how real connection and genuine care lead to confident conversations, and consistent profit. Led by Maryann Croce and Melissa “Birdie” Patterson, this session blends business clarity with communication that connects. Maryann; shop owner/coach helps shop owners stop going 24/7 and lead with clarity to build a profitable, sustainable business that runs with or without them, so they can enjoy life. Birdie helps shop owners show up online with the same heart they bring to the bay. As a marketing guide, content creator, and transition strategist, she follows The Maylan Method and shows up with an attitude of servitude. She helps shops build trust through story, not scripts, so connection becomes the close. Designed for shop owners, managers, and service advisors, this class shows you how to align your messaging, processes, and team communication with both your values and your sales goals. You’ll learn how to build confidence at every level, strengthen trust signals online and in the shop, and turn objections into meaningful conversations. Most importantly, you’ll walk away with practical communication tools and mindset shifts that empower your team to sell through service, not pressure. This isn’t a class about closing techniques. It’s about opening relationships. Because when customers feel seen, heard, and cared for, the sale takes care of itself. Pressure is a tactic. Connection is a strategy. Let’s build profit on purpose.

Proper Electrical Testing
Every day, as technicians, we are confronted with electrical faults. It is almost impossible to name a system in a vehicle that is not electronically controlled or monitored. This means we should be a Master of Electrical testing. This course builds a foundation of electrical theory and testing to use on every vehicle. You will learn functions that your DVOM has but are seldom used to become more proficient in your testing and achieve the results you need. We cover the benefits of voltage drop versus standard voltage potential testing. We will also explore the value of current charging versus ohmic or resistance testing. These two tests alone will fundamentally change the way you approach electrical faults and more importantly reduce the amount of time you spend diagnosing them. Recommended for B and C Technicians Voltage Drop AC & DC Voltage Tests Current Charging Resistance Testing Diode and Component Tests Frequency Testing Temperature Testing o Are you confident with all of the functions of your DVOM? o How would you use voltage drop to isolate the location of a circuit fault? o How can we know the correct amount of current flow for any given circuit? o What is electromotive force and how does it affect our charging and starting system tests

Retention Marketing: The Wake-Up Call Your Shop Needs
You’re good at fixing cars—now it’s time to get serious about fixing your customer retention problem too. This class is your hard truth: if your shop isn’t built around retention, you're bleeding revenue. It’s not enough to get people in the door one time. You have to give them every reason to come back to you when they’re due for their next service, and not your competitors. In this session, we’ll break down how to turn every service into an opportunity to lock in loyalty. You’ll learn how to structure your follow-ups, service reminders, surprise “wow” moments, and communication systems so that your clients automatically think of you next time. What we’ll hit hard: -The real cost of losing customers, and why retention is your highest ROI play (new customers cost far more). -Why “good enough” service isn’t enough, and exactly where most shops drop the ball. -Systems and habits you can put in place today to deliver a consistent 5-star experience. -How to sequence your post-service follow-up so clients feel heard, valued, and compelled to return. - Turning your satisfied customers into vocal advocates (reviews, referrals, repeat business). Warning: This is a very straightforward class with no fluff. You’ll leave with a no-excuses action plan to stop losing people and start keeping your customers for life.

Supercharge Your Service Drive: Using AI to Identify & Elevate Advisor Performance
There is a lot of talk around AI. Some shops want nothing to do with it and others think it will take our jobs. Coralee’s belief if AI is a tool like any other and today’s most successful shops know HOW to utilize it and understand its current limitations.
In this interactive 3-hour session, you’ll learn how AI is transforming the way service advisors and shops improve customer communication, technician efficiency and profitability. AI Features Discussed: ? Inspection Assistant: Helps service advisors capture customer concerns better to help technicians be as efficient as possible and diagnose the customer complaint quickly. ? Maintenance systems: Analyzes each vehicle’s service history (from the shop management system & external data when available) and compares it against recommended maintenance intervals (either manufacturer or custom) so shops don’t miss maintenance work. ? Customer Workflows: Automates or assists with parts of the customer interaction workflow (e.g., capturing concerns, follow-ups, reminders) to keep the process smoother. ? Profitability Analysis / Real-Time Repair Order Auditing: Flag jobs that are under-priced or may have low profitability before they are sold, and provide insights into technician productivity, bottlenecks, and operational inefficiencies. ? Real-world case studies and testimonials from shop owners who’ve used AI to dramatically improve team performance—and their bottom line. Whether you’re trying to close more sales, build customer trust, or ensure consistency across your service drive, this class will show you how to turn every opportunity for growth. As we all know, AI has its limitations. Coralee has identified AI is not always correct when it comes to technical data as well as come up with creative examples to explain these jobs to customers. At the end of this session, Coralee’s new book Explaining Diagnostics, Repairs and Maintenance will be released and available for the FIRST TIME on line AND in person with partial proceeds going to the Technician Scholarship Fund. Timing Chain Advanced Diagnostics Using Scopes, Transducers and Scan Tools
An engine needs three things to run: air, fuel, and ignition. This class will focus on “air” – getting it in, compressing it, and getting it out again. A variety of testing techniques will be taught, using the scan tool and DSO (Digital Storage Oscilloscope) to inspect and identify engine mechanical problems that impact the engine’s volumetric efficiency and its mechanical ability to compress the air/fuel mixture. Examples of “known good” and “known bad” will be included to help the student understand the concepts presented. Recommended for A and B level technicians Digital Storage Oscilloscopes (DSO) Scope setup to read pressure Relative compression Cranking compression Scan tool resources Volumetric Efficiency (VE) Crank and cam sensors CKP and CMP patterns In-cylinder running pressure test o Can you diagnose bad timing chains without opening an engine? o What tools do I need to I need to achieve this capability? o What does a bad waveform look like? o What other diagnosis’ can we make from this measurement

Uncovering The Boundaries of Tooling and Test Limitations
Technicians are only as good as the tools they leverage and the information obtained from the tests they perform. Understanding what the tool can do is key to successful and efficient diagnoses…but understanding what it CANNOT do is absolutely crucial. This class combines the power of understanding the laws of physics (each diagnostician leverages every day) and how the diagnostic tools we implement display those laws at play. Without this understanding, we lack anticipation of how “good” and “not-so-good” captures will exhibit. And, that unfortunately leads to memorization, which is not reliable. Join master diagnostician, Brandon Steckler as he pushes a series of tools to and beyond their capabilities. Realizing this valuable technique will help technicians learn to evaluate tools for comparison and decided which tools work best for them and their situation. Brandon will demonstrate several tools throughout the duration of this class and expose their favorable operational characteristics as well as their pitfalls, because all tools have pitfalls. Tools include: • The Ohm meter • The LED test light • The Incandescent test light • The “Logic Probe” (With the rocker switch) • The DVOM (voltmeter) • The DVOM (secondary functions) • The Digital storage oscilloscope • The Graphing multimeter Brandon will also discuss the limitations of the test results that the tools display. Realizing these limitations will help indicate to technicians why some tests led down a not-so-desirable path into the weeds. Technicians will leave class with the understanding that every tool and every test has limitations. They will learn how to evaluate tool performance for best tool selection, how to set the tools up for diagnostic success, and how to evaluate test results to prevent assumptions about the conditions of the systems or components being evaluated.

Vehicle Communication Diagnostics
Communication faults can be daunting. What type of fault is it? Where is the fault located? Is it a module or a harness issue? In this course you will first identify the type of network you’re working with; CAN bus, LIN bus, FLEXRAY, K-Line. Once identified, you can verify the signal you should be seeing on your scope. We will Identify architectures, common voltage amplitudes for testing and overall network integrity testing. As always, this is a holistic approach using your scan tools, service information, scope, and multimeters to find the fault fast. Recommended for all levels of technicians Identify the Network Test Network Integrity Bypass Testing Harness or Module Verify and Analyze Communication Signals Locating The Fault o How many different types of network architecture exist in modern vehicles? o How can you know what good communication looks like? o Is the scan tool, the scope, or the multimeter the best tool for network diagnostics? o What information is most helpful when a communication fault is intermittent?

What Big Chains Get Right: Lessons Independent Shops Can Steal and Scale
Big chains aren’t chasing every job—they’re targeting the high-margin, low-friction work that drives volume and profit, and they’re doing it with systems, not heroics. This session breaks down both what they go after and how they operate: streamlined processes, compensation models that drive behavior, financial discipline, and execution at scale. Independent shops can adopt the same tactics to compete in the most profitable segments of the market—without losing the culture and flexibility that set them apart.

Wicked Diagnostic Routines: Cutting Down the Trouble Tree Chart
Chopping Down the Trouble Tree Chart with Diagnostic Routines Outside the Box This class is a smorgasbord of effective diagnostic routines that aren’t typically utilized in our daily diagnostic routines. Manufacturers “trouble tree” charts have been misleading for decades and in many cases causes us to waste time and “replace with known good parts” far too often. Every topic covered in this class is designed to open our minds to some of the “wicked cool” routines that we can learn and help use to realize that our only limitation is our imagination. This class will make you thirsty for more. Developing an efficient and accurate approach to network issues. Understanding “protocol rules” , the difference between being “bent and broken” Proper interpretation of current (amps) for diagnosing electrical circuits as a FIRST step Diagnosing many circuits like power windows WITHOUT disassembly Finding the cause of fuse issues quickly (a mind blower) NVH (noise, vibration and harshness), understanding frequency Locating all types of noises including rattles effectively Introduction into advanced lab scope operation Definitely not your “average lab scope operation” Including “ultra lowpass filter and zoom” technique Techniques for locating intermittent issues Milli-ohm meter testing for finding intermittent connection issues Ultra-sensitive graphing ohm meter usage (game changer for sure) The ultimate misfire detection/location using crank sensors Including VR/MR and hall-effect/magneto resistive All scan tools are liars, until we prove they are telling the truth Verifying tough data like ignition and injector timing Using 3rd party equipment with lab scope together Power probes, circuit testers, signal generators, etc. This class is not intended as a deep dive “one and done” explanation into any single topic. Therefore, most students will absolutely want/need to learn more about these diagnostic concepts. This can be accomplished easily as every topic covered in this class has a corresponding training course including hands-on and virtual. This class is intended for all technicians of every technical level.

We Got JUICE
As they say "It's not your father's Oldsmobile" And this WON'T be the normal Electrical class. After teaching Post-Secondary students for 21 years, I now have some former students that graduated almost 30 years ago. When I run into them today and ask about their automotive career, the overwhelming majority of them tell me that with Today's Highly technical vehicles, a solid understanding of how to approach and diagnose the electrical system and components is one of the main reasons they are doing so well in the industry. This WILL NOT be your Basic everyday electrical class, it will be about the reason WHY you have to have your students at the top of their game.

Proper Steering and Suspension Repair Techniques
Modern vehicle engineering and design, especially in steering and suspension systems, have become increasingly complex. Proper installation procedures are now critical. Adhering to manufacturer repair guidelines, including correct torquing, replacing torque-to-yield bolts, and using properly designed components, is essential to avoid dissatisfied customers and safety issues. This course covers testing, diagnosing, and repairing suspension components. Following industry-accepted procedures ensures vehicle safety and reliability, while improper installation can lead to safety concerns. Additionally, vehicles with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) may require recalibration after component replacement, and it is crucial to know when this is needed. Recommended for B and C technicians o Do all the bolts need to be replaced? o Does it really matter what type of part is installed? o Should all the bolts be torqued? o Does the alignment need to be done after part replacement? o I installed all of the parts correctly, why do I have a pull?

EV and Hybrid Service Opportunities
The EV (HEV-Hybrid Electric Vehicle, PHEV-Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle & BEV-Battery Electric Vehicle) segment is the fastest growing market in North America. While there are many safety issues that need to be addressed when servicing EV’s, the reality is there are only a few services that require factory tools or High Voltage safety protocols. Hybrid vehicles all have internal combustion engines that need oil changes, tune-ups and carbon cleaning. EV and hybrid vehicles all have brake and suspension systems along with sophisticated cooling systems, tires and transmission fluid services. This course covers the unique issues you will find on the most popular EV and hybrid vehicles. Topics include: • Service safety • Driver controls and instrumentation • Engine and transmission maintenance • Brake, steering and suspension services • HVAC & Cooling system services • Unique OE specific procedures
