• From Cows to Careers
Presented by: Michelle Shearer, Center for Dairy Excellence, Workforce Development Coordinator
Often, we hear the phrase "agricultural literacy." This workshop takes a twist with that to build literacy skills into our agriculture courses. While we don't have time to teach reading and writing in our classes, we do provide the opportunity for real world context and applications of what English Language Arts teachers are trying to instill in our students. This session will share some of the ways we can build literacy strategies into our lessons through content we are already teaching.

• Literacy Strategies for the Ag Classroom

• Misconceptions of Ag
Presented by: NAAE Facilitators
“Perception is reality.” It’s true! What people think about something is how they are going to act towards it.For example, if people have the perception that biotechnology is unsafe, then they probably won't want to eat biotech foods! But are all people worried, or is it just a small group who has a loud voice? It is important to know how people perceive agriculture! Misconceptions of agriculture will take learners through a survey-like experience which creates a mini experiment to determine an individual's perceptions of the agriculture industry.

• ARTiculture: Bringing the Arts and Agriculture Together
Presented by: Nicole Weaver, Global Teach Ag Network, Agriculture Teacher, Twin Valley School District
Utilizing the arts as a pedagogy for facilitating topics in agriculture, Sustainable Development Goals, and related areas is an effective way to engage students in meaningful ways. Adding an element of the arts increases student interest, provides them the ability to solve problems in new and innovative ways, and builds their confidence and imaginative abilities. In this workshop, we will discuss the different arts, their value and efficacy. Through modeling, participants will experience how the arts can be applied to various lessons or even used as SEL, icebreakers, reflection times and bell ringers. Participants will work with a chosen lesson and brainstorm 4 different ways to apply the arts. Working in small cohort groups, participants will develop a lesson that can be used in the classroom or a facilitated group. We will also review the GTAN (Global Teach Ag Network) community in Mighty Networks and review the resources and opportunities such as the ArtSmash event for members.
