The AWP Conference Community Scholarship aims to increase access to the annual conference and bookfair. While anyone may apply, AWP encourages those who identify as people of color, disabled, LGBTQIA+, and/or low-income to apply. Seventy-five percent of community scholarships are awarded to local residents in the region where the conference is held. Membership is not required to apply. The AWP Conference Community Scholarship launched in 2021, and since then hundreds of writers have been able to attend the conference at no cost, or a significantly reduced cost.
